Archbishop Mosese Tui SDB, the Archbishop of Samoa-Apia and former parish priest in West Auckland, New Zealand, has accepted an invitation from the Samoan government to chair the selection panel for this year’s Independence honours.

The upcoming 64th Independence celebrations in June will span three days, featuring traditional sports and cultural events. Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Schmidt noted that the festivities will honor the sacrifices made by Samoa’s forefathers. Samoa’s journey to sovereignty reached its peak on January 1, 1962, following the Western Samoa Act, which transitioned the nation from New Zealand administration to a fully independent sovereign state.
