The Episcopal Conference of the Pacific (CEPAC) joins the Apostolic Nunciature in celebrating a momentous occasion for the Church in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
We are delighted to share the official announcement from His Excellency, Apostolic Nuncio Gábor Pintér, regarding the elevation of Father Tomasz Gdula to the rank of Chaplain of His Holiness.
A Recognition of Dedicated Service
By the grace of the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, Father Gdula has been granted the ecclesiastical title of Monsignor. This honor is a testament to his “generous service” and tireless dedication as the Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Wellington.
What This Means for Our Community?
The title of Chaplain of His Holiness is a pontifical honor traditionally bestowed upon priests who have shown exceptional commitment to the mission of the Church. For those of us in the Pacific, it is a reminder of the close bond between our local dioceses and the Holy See.
• New Title: Monsignor (Msgr.) Tomasz Gdula
• Effective Date: 13 February 2026
• Significance: A recognition of service to the Apostolic Nunciature and the wider Pacific community.
“We offer our warmest congratulations to Msgr. Gdula. His humble service has been a blessing to the Bishops, clergy, and faithful across our vast blue continent. We assure him of our continued prayerful communion as he begins this new chapter of his ministry.”
We invite all the faithful across the Pacific Islands to join us in prayer for Msgr. Gdula, thanking God for his vocation and his continued work in the service of the Gospel.
Congratulations, Monsignor Tomasz Gdula!
